This event was precipitated by an industry that was highly exploitative, the apparel apparel industry. There is everything from Sexual Exploitation of workers to workforce issues and women went on strike in 1909 with what is called the uprising of the 20000 in order to improve their lives. They wanted a few things but they want to workplace safety. Two years later, the cost of that was clear when 146 of them died. 46 of them died.
