Students honored for bravery on school bus

Last month, three eighth-graders who attend the North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts sprang into action to keep fellow students on their bus safe while caring for their bus driver who had a medical incident while taking them to school.
Gabriella Rodriguez, Yoan Tavares and Joselyn Lemus earned the North Fort Myers Community Service Medal from the North Fort Myers Civic Association last Tuesday, with NFMAA principal Andrea Gunns accepting the honor on their behalf.
“The action of these students was well beyond their years as they managed to remain calm, and also calm the younger students on the bus, to minimize what could have been a very difficult situation,” Civic Association President Doug Dailey said during the presentation. ....
