Some of the Kankara schoolboys, who were abducted by bandits but later released, have said they were informed by their captors that N30m was paid as an initial ransom, while the total demand for their release was N344m or N1m per schoolboy.
This comes barely a week after the military, the Presidency, the Zamfara State Governor, Bello Mattawale; and his Katsina State counterpart, Aminu Masari; all claimed the bandits released the schoolboys without the payment of any ransom. ....

The schoolboys who were kidnapped from Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, in Katsina State, by suspected bandits on December 11, have given more insight into the development that led to their release.
According to the Wall Street Journal, some of the boys said they were thoroughly beaten by the bandits, adding that a ransom was paid to the kidnappers before they were freed. ....

The 334 released Kankara schoolboys has again made a shocking revelation that the gunmen who kidnapped them demanded 344 million Naira, (One million per hand), before they could be released, Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reports.
The schoolboys according to WSJ said that 30 million naira was paid initially but their abductors threatened to release only 30 of them if N344m is not paid.
“Three boys said their kidnappers told them they were initially paid 30 million naira, equivalent to around $76,000, but decided not to release the boys because they had demanded 344 million naira 1 per head. ....

Abducted schoolboys of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State have said that their kidnappers demanded a total of N344million naira – N1million per head – before they were released, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reports.
It would be recalled that all the 344 schoolboys were released on Thursday, December 17, 2020, by the bandits who had kidnapped them on Friday, December 11, 2020.
Controversy has, however, trailed the claim that ransom was not paid by the Nigerian authorities to secure the release of the schoolboys. ....
