Snake on a train delays travelers in Yilan County

An eastbound train was slightly delayed at the Yilan Railway Station after a large snake was found in one of the train carriages, the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) said yesterday.
The Tze-Chiang Express train No. 272 departed from the Miaoli Railway Station at 5:27am headed for Hualien, the agency said.
At 8:19am, just after the train passed the Ruifang Station (瑞芳) in New Taipei City, passengers informed the conductor that a 1m-long snake was coiled on a handrail in the 12th carriage, the agency said.
The conductor notified the operation control center and evacuated the passengers to other carriages before closing ....

Sicheng site no ploy to boost family's property value: Wu

Minister Without Portfolio Wu Tze-cheng (吳澤成) yesterday denied that he instructed the Ministry of Transportation and Communications to build the terminal station of a planned high-speed rail extension line to Yilan County in Sicheng (四城), where his family lives, to boost real-estate prices there.
A consulting firm hired by the ministry had recommended four possible terminal stations adjacent to Yilan Station, Luodong Station, Sicheng Station or at a yet-to-be built station near the Yilan County Government building.
Yesterday, the Chinese-language United Daily News reported that one of the properties to be expropriated by the government for the terminal station in Sicheng ....
