THE Irish Ambassador to the United States has written to the New York Times to complain about a columnist s name calling and use of the word leprechaun .
The paper published a column by Paul Krugman entitled Yellen s New Alliance Against Leprechauns .

Mr Krugman originally coined the phrase “leprechaun economics” to describe Ireland’s tax policies with multinational companies.
Writing in the American newspaper, he said: On paper, Ireland’s gross domestic product suddenly jumped 25 per cent, even though nothing real had changed – a phenomenon I dubbed ‘leprechaun economics’, a term that has stuck. (Fortunately, the Irish have a sense of humour.)”
