Batik has been recognized globally as an Indonesian cultural heritage. The Industry Ministry’s data showed that the export value of batik in the first half of 2020 reached US$21.54 million, with the United States, Japan and Europe as the main destinations.
An initiative of youth development foundation Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa (YCAB) in collaboration with the Indika Foundation resulted in the creation of Rumah Belajar Batik (Batik Learning House) in Semarang, Central Java, with the aim of preserving the country’s cultural heritage, improving the batik industry and creating jobs through integrated and holistic training.
More than 120 participants are trained in batik-making and online marketing, as well as given entrepreneurial assistance to build their own sustainable businesses.
