Europe's first fully 3D-printed house gets first tenants in Netherlands


 
A Dutch couple have become Europe’s first tenants of a fully 3D printed house in a development that its backers believe will open up a world of choice in the shape and style of the homes of the future.
Elize Lutz (70) and Harrie Dekkers (67), retired shopkeepers from Amsterdam, received their digital key – an app allowing them to open the front door of their two-bedroom bungalow at the press of a button – on Thursday.
“It is beautiful,” said Lutz. “It has the feel of a bunker – it feels safe,” added Dekkers.

First tenants move into 3D-printed home in Eindhoven
A boulder-shaped concrete house in the Netherlands has become the first lived-in 3D-printed home in the country after its tenants received the key on April 30.
Located in a suburb of Eindhoven, the single-storey home was built as part of a five-home 3D printing scheme named Project Milestone, and is said to be the first 3D-printed home in Europe where people actually live.

Today, April 30, the first tenant of the first ever Dutch 3D-printed concrete home receives the key. The house in Eindhoven – the first of five within ‘Project Milestone’ – fully complies with all of the strict building requirements of The Netherlands. Uniquely, the project partners have realized a home with an entirely original design thanks to extensive R&D that enlarges the freedom of form in concrete printing.
Project Milestone is a joint construction and innovation project of Eindhoven University of Technology, Van Wijnen, Saint-Gobain Weber Beamix, Vesteda, the Municipality of Eindhoven and Witteveen+Bos. The group of TU/e professor Theo Salet is one of the driving forces of the project. ....
