Over 300 journalists, photographers, camera persons and a few staff of the Department of Information and Publicity received vaccine at a special vaccination programme conducted in Hubballi and Dharwad on Tuesday.
The special programme was conducted following declaration of media persons as frontline warriors by the State government and an order to give them vaccine on priority basis and a subsequent direction from Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Nitesh Patil.
In Hubballi, 240 media persons received their first dose of Covishield during the special vaccination programme held at the Patrakartara Bhavan of the Dharwad District Union of Working Journalists (DDUWJ). ....

A record 50,112 fresh infections on Wednesday pushed Karnataka’s Covid tally beyond 17 lakh, a grim milestone only Maharashtra and Kerala have crossed so far. The state’s previous daily record was 48,296 on April 30. The state reported its highest-ever daily fatalities of 346. Bengaluru reported 23,106 fresh cases, around 3,600 lower than its singleday record of 26,756 cases on April 30. The state has a total of 17.4 lakh cases, including 4.8 lakh active ones. Karnataka: 5 COVID-19 patients die in Hubballi hospital, kin allege oxygen shortage

Hubballi (Karnataka) [India], May 5 (ANI): As many as five patients suffering from Covid-19 and under intensive care at Shri Bhanji D Khimji Lifeline Hospital died on Tuesday allegedly due to shortage of oxygen.
The patients reportedly died within a span of one and a half hours, starting at 3 pm.
However, the district health officer Dr Yashwant Madinkar, who visited the hospital, dismissed the allegation that the deaths occurred due to shortage of oxygen and said a committee of experts would investigate the matter.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Ramarajan said a clear picture would emerge only after a medical inquiry. ....

Emphasising the need to make preparations in advance to face the second wave, Minister for Large and Medium Industries Jagadish Shettar has asked officials to get 2,000 beds with oxygen facility ready in the district.
Speaking to presspersons after holding a COVID-19 review meeting with district-level officials at KIMS administrative block in Hubballi on Friday, Mr. Shettar said that as a precautionary measure, 1,000 beds with oxygen facility would be kept ready at KIMS Hospital in Hubballi, 500 beds in SDM Hospital in Dharwad and another 500 beds in other private hospitals. ....
