Vijay Varma’s character in the Amazon Prime series seems to be loosely based on a mild-mannered teacher turned serial killer from Karnataka, though there has been no official confirmation from the show’s creators.
Mohan Kumar, a former primary school teacher from Dakshina Kannada, had admitted to killing at least 20 women between 2004 and 2009 by poisoning them with cyanide. He also confessed to befriending them with the offer of marriage and then stealing their jewellery after killing them.
