山形市の蔵王ロープウェイ地蔵山頂駅（標高1661メートル）そばの林地にササが刈り払われた一帯がある。白く枯れ果てたアオモリトドマツの合間で、青々とした葉を付けた20センチほどの稚樹（ちじゅ）が風に揺れる。県や林野庁山形森林管理署が取り組んでいる試験移植の現場。定着は順調に進んでおり、関係者は樹氷再生に向けた起死回生の一手として期待を寄せる。
樹氷林を復活させるには新たに植林するのが有効だが、山頂駅周辺は国定公園の特別保護地区に指定されており、生態系保護のため植栽などの行為に厳しい規制がある。たと�
