Yakima Federal Saving & Loan Scholarship Window Is Open
Yakima Federal Savings and Loan has a long history with their Awards for Academic Excellence program. Over the years the institution has given out more than 2-Million dollars in scholarships for the top students in high schools across the region.
The window for applications is open now with the bank setting aside a $174,000 cash pool to fund 80 of the $2,000 individual awards to area graduating seniors in Yakima, Kittitas, Benton or Franklin counties.
In addition to academic excellence, C.E.O. Leanna Antonio says the applicants should be able to demonstrate high moral character, industriousness, and ambition during their high school career. A list of other requirements is posted at the Yakima Federal Saving and Loan website HERE.

Chances are most of the KIT listening audience never received much in the way of formal money management education. It was left up to parents to share life lessons dealing with money. Maybe you got the mythical dollar allowance breakdown of setting aside 10 cents for the church, 15 cents for savings, 25 cents for necessities, blah, blah, blah..and maybe you didn t!
The bottom line is most of us are pretty lousy at money management. An article in Marketwatch from a couple years ago titled Five Facts That Americans Are Horrendous At Managing Money makes a pretty good case for the need of more and better education!
