On Sunday afternoon, February 26, the clouds lifted and the sun was shining as Rabbi Yaakov Neuburger cut the ribbon in front of Congregation Beth Abraham’s newly built extension.
When I first learned late this summer that my brother was gravely ill and declining, I briefly hesitated to call my rabbis and friends because they already do so much for me and my family, on a daily and weekly basis.
In a few weeks, Project Extreme will officially launch Allan’s House in Teaneck, a transitional group home for boys ages 18-25. Established by David Katz, in memory of his friend, Allan Henning, who passed away just weeks shy of his 46th birthday, Allan’s House will provide living accommodations for 5-10 residents who have experienced some type of crisis and worked through it.
On a day with near-perfect weather, a crowd of nearly 300, including Beth Abraham’s rabbinic and lay leadership, members and local dignitaries showed up for an afternoon of fun for the kids, a sumptuous picnic-dinner buffet and a personal address from Congressman Josh Gottheimer.
