The Kunming international community lost a beloved member on Friday, May 8, when Mike Medcalf died in a tragic accident while traveling in Zhejiang, China. Mike was a loving husband, a father of two, a caring brother and a devoted son. He was a musician, a poet, an artist, a philosopher, an educator, a good friend to so many and one of the kindest people in the Kunming international community. He had a strong character, a clever wit and a light-hearted sense of humor. Armed with a mischievous smile and a sly, staccato laugh, he was always quick to find ways to lighten the mood. He was a strong supporter of social justice, was very nonjudgmental of others and had an incredibly generous heart that often led him to sacrifice his own time in order to help out his friends. Those of us who knew him were all made better because of him. ....
We cordially invite any and all members of the Kunming community to attend our fifth Have a Heart Fundraiser on Saturday, November 14. The closure of previous host venue DT bar and Covid-19 threw a spanner in the works for 2019 and early 2020, but Kai Wah Plaza hotel has stepped up and will be the venue for this years event a day and night of music, drinks, a craft market, kids activities, fabulous giveaways and food. This year the event is jointly organized by individuals in the Kunming international community and supported by Rotary Kunming. The event aims to raise money to support Yunnan kids who desperately need heart surgeries. So come out and join us for the fifth Have a Heart fundraiser and lend a hand to those in need. ....
