As 2020 came to an end, I did the thing I do several times a day. I checked my Instagram. But on this fortuitous evening, one Story stopped me from mindlessly tapping through each of the tiny bubbles above my feed. The post, from one of my internet pals, announced sign-ups for the 1B vaccinations were now being administered through University Health in San Antonio.
I, like most Texans, assumed the state would focus on making sure all those eligible under the 1A tier (first responders, those in long-term care institutions) would be inoculated before offering the vaccine to others. Then again, the Lone Star State s Covid-19 response has been.patchy at best. Sure, the state shut down in March, but the minute Governor Greg Abbott deemed it necessary to reopen businesses, h ....

Questions and concerns surrounding vaccine distribution have been swirling since the first doses were distributed.
After the announcement from the state s Expert Vaccine Allocation Panel that those who fall under Phase 1B would be able to get the vaccine, many people in that category are still waiting.
Right now, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services, the state has a limited supply of vaccines available.
The decision to open up vaccine opportunities to those in Phase 1B was because some some counties met all of the vaccine needs for Phase 1A. But in Bell County and McLennan County, folks in both categories are waiting to receive the vaccine. ....

DSHS initiates Phase 1B of COVID-19 vaccine, expanding eligible to 'medically vulnerable' patients

HOUSTON – The Department of State Health Services has given entities the go-ahead to begin vaccinating people eligible for Phase 1B, after vaccinating as many willing members of Phase 1A.
“IB is the second tier of prioritization that the state of Texas has put out for the way they would like the COVID vaccines to be administered,” said Dr. James McCarthy, the Chief Physician Executive for the Memorial Herman Health System.
According to McCarthy, almost 10,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine have been administered at Memorial Hermann as part of Phase 1A.
“1A was really first-line medical responder’s, not just the doctors in hospitals but their clinic staff and EMS providers,” McCarthy said. “IB is to move into the larger community to start including patients that we consider medically vulnerable.” ....
