Adding surplus solar power to the electric grid should not cost homes more money. This was stated in a proposition submitted by NSC MP Wytske Postma, who claims she is supported by the other coalition parties, the PVV, VVD, and BBB. Under the so-called netting scheme, households can offset the electricity they generate against their consumption. If people create more power than they use, the energy supplier should pay a "reasonable compensation" for that.
Between 1 and 15 August, 1,827 volunteers picked up 6,081 kilograms of trash and 27,854 cigarette butts on Dutch beaches. The many thousands of butts show the need for smoke-free beaches, said the North Sea Foundation, one of the organizers of the annual Boskalis Beach Cleanup Tour.

MPs, ministers and local mayors have condemned Monday night’s riots at towns and cities across the Netherlands, describing them as ‘shameless’ and the work of vandals.
Some184 people were arrested in a third night of trouble across the country, which commentators say had little to do with protests against the coronavirus curfew. The destruction led justice minister Ferd Grapperhaus to say that people arrested during the riots will face tougher legal action, not simply a €95 fine for ignoring the coronavirus rules.
