Joy Hayashida Ludington is an enthusiastic 10-year-old. This week she welcomes us into her inner world by answering a lot of questions. I think that we oldsters could learn a lot from this smart, thoughtful and confident girl. She was recently awarded top honors in the Wyoming Letters About Literature Contest. She won second place in the grades four-six category.
Q: Where and when were you born?
Joy: I was born on Oct. 19, 2010 (close to Halloween) in Jackson.
Q: Who are your parents and where do they work?
Joy: My mom’s name is Maria Hayashida, and she works at the library, which I’m super happy about because I love to read. My dad’s name is Maxwell Ludington, and he is the president of the Jackson Hole Land Trust. ....

Etna student, Eden Adams, wins Wyoming Letters About Literature contest


Etna Elementary student, Eden Adams, recently learned she won first prize in the Wyoming Letters about Literature contest for 2020-21. Adams is a sixth-grader in Mr. Brant Crowther’s class at Etna, and her sincere, heart-warming letter to author Kimberly Brubaker Bradley won the 4th-6th grade category. 
The Wyoming Letters About Literature is just one of several literacy programs sponsored by the Wyoming State Library. Students are asked to read a book, poem, or speech and write to the author (living or dead) about how the book affected them personally. Students compete in three age categories: Level 1 (grades 4-6), Level 2 (grades 7-8), and Level 3 (grades 9-12). At each age level, Wyoming winners will receive an Amazon gift card worth $150 for first place, $100 for second, or $50 for third. ....

'Letters About Literature' contest nears submission deadline


(Wyoming) – Students in grades 4-12 have less than two weeks left to enter the Wyoming Letters About Literature contest! The postmark deadline is Saturday, January 9, 2021. With school out for the holidays, this is a good time for teens and tweens to write a heartfelt letter to their favorite author for the chance to win an Amazon gift card.
Wyoming Letters About Literature asks students to reflect on a book or other work that has affected them and to write to the author — living or dead — about how that book changed their life or outlook. Letters will be judged in three levels: grades 4-6, grades 7-8, and grades 9-12. In each level, Amazon gift cards will be awarded in the amount of $150 for first place, $100 for second place, and $50 for third place. ....
