County residents interested in getting help with their yard can sign up now for the Spring Healthy Virginia Lawns program. The program is designed to assist York County and Poquoson residents with taking care of their lawns in an economic and environmentally sound manner. Master Gardeners will visit sites in March to measure yards, take soil samples and provide customized feedback.

York County establishes COVID-19 vaccine helpline | Williamsburg Yorktown Daily

As a partner of the Virginia Department of Health and to serve residents of York County and Poquoson, the County has created a COVID-19 Helpline. (WYDaily/Annie Gallo) York County announced the establishment of a COVID-19 Helpline on Feb. 1 to assist individuals in registering for the COVID-19 vaccine. “Emergency Communications staff understand that hearing a kind and compassionate voice can provide a level of comfort during times of uncertainty,” Terry Hall, director of York County Emergency Communications, said. Hall noted the county has multiple phone lines available to help with registering for the vaccine, but if a call goes to voicemail, callers can leave a message and the office will call them back as soon as possible.

Learn gardening tips on zoom through a York County Master Your Garden program

The York County Public Library, Poquoson Public Library, and York-Poquoson Master Gardeners are hosting a series of educational gardening seminars on Zoom. York County and Poquoson Public Libraries are partnering with the York-Poquoson Virginia Cooperative Extension office to host a series of virtual classes presented by Master Gardeners. Master Gardeners’ mission as trained volunteers in partnership with the York–Poquoson, VCE agency, is to provide gardening educational opportunities to the public through research-based gardening programs and activities to enhance the environment and community. Some localities in the Historic Triangle are providing relief for citizens struggling to pay bills. In York County, the locality’s utility billing department has federal funding from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act available to assist those who are behind on their bills due to the ongoing pandemic. This assistance is for the sewer maintenance portion of the York County utility bill. The initial program deadlines have been extended. Assistance is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Customers should email utility@yorkcounty.gov with their address and explain their situation to see if they qualify for the utility relief program. Anyone interested may also call Utility Billing at 757-890-3702 to speak with a staff member.

(WYDaily/Annie Gallo) The York County Commissioner of the Revenue’s office is participating in the third annual Commissioners and Cans Food and Fund Drive for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Revenue offices all over the state are coming together for this drive to fill the shelves of seven local food banks like Feed More and Feeding America. The two-week long donation event begins Monday, Feb. 1 and continues through Monday, Feb. 15. This time of year is extremely tough for food banks and the community’s help is so important to feed hungry families in the area.
