WV Rivers threatens to sue Chemours over PFAS threat | Energy and Environment

The West Virginia Rivers Coalition has threatened to sue Chemours over what the group says are lingering violations of the Clean Water Act tied to PFAS at the company s Washington Works plant near Parkersburg. Chemours says the United States Environmental Protection Agency has yet to approve a PFAS remediation plan the agency required the company to submit in a consent order in April 2023.

Environmental rep added to mine reclamation board | Energy and Environment

New appointments to the West Virginia Special Reclamation Fund Advisory Council included a member recommended by environmental groups to represent them after concern about removal of the previous member statutorily required to represent them on the board. Gov. Jim Justice appointed West Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club chairman Jim Kotcon to serve on the board.

WV Senate OKs state forest management contract bill | Legislative Session

The West Virginia Senate, on Feb. 21, 2024, approved a bill that would allow state Department of Commerce agencies to bypass competitive bidding for contracts to manage state forests to prevent forest fires when they support economic development projects. Senate Bill 688 would allow the directors of the Division of Forestry and Division of Natural Resources to contract for the management of state forests and wildlife management areas to prevent wildfires and bypass competitive bidding to do so if the project is needed for economic development.
