What anyone around the area has seen, no pieces of degree. nothing falling on people. shimon s point about had it been a bigger fire, it would have filled the stairwell, what would have happened to the people who evacuated. all things big picture to keep in mind. totally. and when you think about the ntsb and they re investigation, we re probably learn how it landed at some point, and was it a fact that this pilot did save lives. my mind goes to the miracle on the hudson. that plane landed in the hudson river, and everyone on board was safe, and it avoided buildings and any sort of destruction along its path. smaller scale, but at the same time it s remarkable to hear this happening from beginning to end. seeing these pictures that remind you of things that happened in new york. and it s going to be another story. yep. bryn, thank you very much. david soucie, let me loop back to you.
Big question for investigators, for the ntsb, which is in charge of this investigation. that s what s going on at the scene. they re going to gather the information. they re talking to the faa. they re talking to air traffic control over new york to try and figure out exactly what was going on. i think they have a good indication of where this helicopter was coming from and who this helicopter belongs to. it s a question of for us, to wait to get that information from authorities at this point. yeah. you are probably right on the money that they are having these conversations and they will hold a news conference as soon as they possibly can to just let the public in on what has happened, how it s happened and who has died. shimon, thank you, stay close. let me play a little more sound. more eyewitnesss from in and around the scene as far as what they saw, what they heard. it took a half hour to get from the 29th floor down to the ground floor.
To bryn s point, we saw the picture of the new york mayor and the police and fire commissionerers huddled together. you refer to it as a war room. ntsb is in charge of the investigation. what are some of the questions they re working out right now? no david soucie. josh campbell. you around with me? can you talk to me a little bit about what some of the behind closed doors as officials are talking before they step out in front of the cameras to brief the rest of us, what are the key questions they re working through? i think the first thing we have to do is in the united states we lionize firefighters. they rush into danger. that s what s happening right now. we saw the pictures of them responding. we don t see inside the building. we had someone talking about possibly having to trek up 51 floors carrying equipment in order to put the fire out. these are people that go to work every day not knowing what kind of danger they re going to rush into. i think it s important to pause
I worked at that airport. we did maintenance on helicopters where reportedly this helicopter came from. if it was coming in and seeing the last-minute flight, it depends on the experience of the pilot. if you have no visibility, what you need to be doing is climbing, not thinking about landing. you need to be climbing. the idea that he may have attempted a controlled landing is pretty farfetched. i think there was something that had to be going wrong for him to try to land. he knows what the tallest building is if he s flying into the area. if you lose visibility, you climb, especially at that altitude where you may not have forward air speed. you climb and get out of there as quickly as you can. forgive me, david, i thought you were a pilot. no. i know the ntsb is now in charge of the investigation. we know that they re meeting. the mayor is with the police commissioner and fire. we know ntsb is in charge of this. can you take us behind closed
