Reporter i cant get over how much like an action movie this entire scene today was when an alleged bank robbery known as the bicycle bandit was in the hospital behind me after police say he tried to kill High Pressure system in jail late last week. Kill himself in jail late last week. He overpowered two Security Guards, stole a gun and left the hospital in barefoot with nothing more than a hospital gown. He was shackled. Police were at a loss today to explain how 42yearold Wossen Assaye wrestled a gun from a private Security Guard and slipped out of the hospital unseen. I dont know exactly what restraints were on him at the time, but he was on the hospital gurney bed. Reporter investigators now believe assaye hid in the trunk of a womans car and pop ....

We are now live and you can hear the helicopter flying above us in this neighborhood. Lets go to some video we shot a short time ago to give you an idea how intense this search was. We were told by members of swath s. W. A. T. To stay in our live truck. They were going through yards going door to door. Obviously, looking for this suspect, who has alluded police since 3 00 this morning. A still photographer was threatened with arrest if he didnt get back in his car. Thats how intense this manhunt is here this morning. Its all about the man who is the alleged bicycle bandit. He was locked up last week by federal authorities robbing banks. He was sent to jail. Apparently, he made a Suicide Attempt ....

Hundreds of Law Enforcement officers feds state, local. Heavily armed on foot in trucks, in the air. In Fairfax County for hours searching for Wossen Assaye only to find him miles away in d. C. Picked up by police there after he got off a bus at 25th and pennsylvania avenue southeast. They dragged him. They got him in the back of the car, started taking his boots and stuff off and everything making sure he didnt have a weapon. It was unbelievable. It was like it wasnt real. Reporter it began around 3 00 this morning at the Inova Fairfax hospital. Assaye was on suicide watch. He had tried to take his life last week in jail. He was guarded by the u. S. Reporter assaye, a bank robbery suspect, was being watched by two private guards hired by the marshal service. A man and a woman. When the male guard went to the bathroom assaye made his move. In bare feet wearing only a hospital gown. At a residence near the hospital assaye breaks into the trunk of a womans car. When she gets behind the car and starts to drive to work he kicks in the back seat. She crashes the car. She gets out and he drives off in it. At this point, the search is ramped up. Feds locals snaking their way to this annandale neighborhood looking for any trace, for anything that might lead them to this fugitive. Assaye they say, drives the stolen car into this womans garage. Police looking for a shooter in that area. I want to let you know these are the roads that are closed. U. S. 50 to prosperity avenue. Prosperity avenue to gallows road. And wood burn road to prosperity avenue. Closed as a result of that Police Activity by inova health and sky fax. Show us some of those closures you can see, police are on the scene. Again, looking for a man they say is armed and dangerous. We have seen a number of closures around the hospital as police look for the suspect, staff trying to get in and out of the hospital.
