Worthington Kilbourne student starts petition to restore school resource officers
Kilbourne senior Luke Brown started the change.org petition addressed to the school board, Superintendent Trent Bowers and Kilbourne principal Aric Thomas with the hopes that the reinstatement of the SRO program will be considered.
The petition had 186 signatures as of July 6, with a goal of hitting 200. Brown said those signatures consist of mostly Kilbourne and Thomas Worthington High School students.
“The removal of our SROs had no just-basis and was fueled by the negative image surrounding police during these times,” the petition reads.” As a senior in the Worthington School District, I have seen first hand the result of SROs being removed.” ....

The Worthington Division of Police is expected to join multiple police agencies around central Ohio that are using body-worn cameras after an appropriation by Worthington City Council. 
“We’ve had an extensive amount of time spent . in which the council was educated on what body cameras were about, how law enforcement uses them, what are the values, what are the trends and what are the safeguards that have to be in place,” council President Bonnie Michael said. “And after having a thorough discussion, I think the council felt comfortable enough to go forward with the appropriation.” ....

Worthington City Council plans to reintroduce the matter of outfitting Worthington Division of Police officers with body-worn cameras after the issue has been tabled for more than nine months. 
Prior to a presentation from city police Chief Robert Ware at council’s May 10 meeting regarding policy development and implementation of a proposed body-camera program, City Manager Matt Greeson indicated that the discussion of body cameras would be removed from the table May 17.
“We’re scheduling this additional conversation for this evening, and then our goal is to bring forward … the tabled ordinance for removal from the table next week and amendment to reflect the modifications to the program,” Greeson said during the meeting.  ....
