Saskatchewan s Lost Girl Ashlyn George got the best out of March in the Estevan area

Popular blogger Ashlyn Goorge visited Estevan and checked out the Boundary Dam reservoir. Photo submitted Even though there are many outdoor options in the area, being a content creator, George chose the option that most people would call out of the ordinary. An active runner, while in Estevan she couldn t resist doing some running, but she added a bit of a twist to it.   On the first day that I arrived, I met a group of local runners at the Boundary Dam Reservoir in the Woodlawn Regional Park, and we all went for a five-kilometre run. And since Boundary Dam has open water throughout the winter season, we did a polar dip after we finished the run, George said with a laugh.

Pathway network would be a real boost

This would not only benefit the existing pathways in the community, but it would allow for the construction of other pathways in Estevan that would finally connect the city. This has long been a desire for many, although it has often been shuffled to the side amid the myriad of other needs in the community. We’re lucky enough to have some very nice pathways in some very attractive areas of Estevan. There’s a great walk to be had through the Churchill Playpark, past the Cactus Park ball diamonds and soccer pitches, and then back through the Westview subdivision.

We have lots to do in the winter

Festival of Lights had a record number of visitors over the holidays

According to the information received through the RM of Estevan s road counter, about 4,500 vehicles turned up to enjoy almost 40 colourful, often funny and very creative lights displays. Maureen Daoust, who is the business manager at the Woodlawn Regional Park, said they were very pleased with how the event turned out. Festival of Lights 2020 was a great success. We were super excited, Daoust said. They also received a lot of great feedback from the community. People were thrilled to be able to go down and see how beautiful it was, and to see how much better it was than it was in the past, even though previous years it was good too, said Daoust.

Cougar spotted at Estevan Dog Park

The dog park committee said they are lucky to have the facility in Woodlawn Regional Park and the beautiful nature along the river. They share the land with a variety of wildlife, so people are encourage to always be on the lockout. They should watch and listen to their dogs, as they will tell you if something has passed through or is close by. The cougar has been here before in the fall, the committee said. It is just passing through once again, and it will move on soon. The Estevan RCMP was called to the scene about a potential cougar or mountain lion sighting in a tree.
