[email protected] NEW CUMBERLAND The Alpha Tau Chapter (W.Va.) of Alpha Delta Kappa, International Honorary Organization for Women Educators held its January meeting through Zoom. The meeting was called to order by President Diane Bowers. The thought for the day, “A Mighty Fortress is Our God,” was read by Chaplain Kathy Griffith. Roll call was taken, and minutes were approved as presented by Secretary Velda Icard. Treasurer Fran Jones gave the financial report and discussed the progress of the ways and means projects. No committee reports were given. West Virginia President Pat Hardin was the special guest. She discussed upcoming events at the district, state and regional levels. ....
Phyllis E. McLeod Phyllis Elaine McLeod, age 88, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away December 26, 2020 of complications related to Alzheimer’s Disease. Phyllis was born to Parnell and Evelyn Smeby in Fargo, ND on March 17, 1932. She attended Oak Grove Lutheran High School where she became an accomplished pianist and graduated at the age of seventeen with the class of 1949. She graduated from Moorhead State (Teachers College) University in 1950 with an Associate Degree in Education, later returning in 1972 to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. Phyllis started her teaching career in Detroit Lakes where she met Elton “Sonny” McLeod. They were married in Hickson, ND on August 17, 1952. They lived in Hibbing, MN for a few years before settling in Detroit Lakes to raise their family. Phyllis enjoyed a long career in teaching and assumed she would put her career on hold when she and Sonny started their family, but each time she tried to quit, the sch ....
[email protected] STEUBENVILLE Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church has announced the cancellation of its annual Christmas Day Memorial Dinner this year due to COVID -19. For nine years, Holy Trinity has been serving a free Christmas Day meal. Last year, in 2019, more than 600 meals were served. “This year we had to make the difficult decision to cancel our annual Christmas Day dinner, due to the CDC guidelines, state guidelines and COVID safety concerns for our volunteers and guests,” noted Spiro Alexander. “We are not equipped to sponsor a safe sit-down or take-out meal. We felt it was best to not hold the dinner.” ....
