unnatural sex: Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill scraps 'unnatural sex' offence, in a move away from colonial laws

The Indian government has eliminated the British-era offence of unnatural sex from its criminal legislation. Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code has been omitted from the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The move, which follows a 2018 Supreme Court judgement, legalises consensual same-sex relations among adult members of the LGBTQ community. However, two other sections of the IPC relating to unnatural sex remain in the BNS. In 1967, the UK passed the Sexual Offences Act, which decriminalised homosexual acts between consenting adults above 21. ....
