A quick Google search of headlines returns pages of results such as “Race Relations in America” and “Democracy Under Fire.” On Thursday, April 15, WPI will take a deep dive into the many issues associated with those words as part of the University Lecture Series in an address delivered by Cornel West, titled “Race and Democracy.” Sponsored by the Office of the President, the series provides an annual forum for speakers of national and international importance to enhance scholarly and scientific learning and to stimulate the intellectual climate of the university and surrounding communities. ....

WORCESTER, Mass. - February 10, 2021 – Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) Provost and Senior Vice President Winston Oluwole Soboyejo, PhD has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). NAE membership is one of the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer.
NAE membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice, education, or literature and to “the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education.” Soboyejo was honored for his work in two of those categories: his contributions to understanding dynamic behavior of materials, and his leadership in STEM outreach in Africa. ....

With an eye on the future, participants and attendees of a January 27 virtual event envisioned how the Middle East can address a myriad of economic and environmental problems through partnerships. The event was part of a speaker series launching The Global School at WPI, which aims to highlight and grow the projects, research, and collaborations WPI has all over the world while focusing shared global concerns.
Following opening remarks by Provost Wole Soboyejo, panelists explored issues such as climate change, water conservation, food insecurity, the expansion of green energy projects, ways to expand educational opportunities, and how WPI can play a role in finding solutions and foster working relationships. ....
