Pumilia stepped down on May 1, after decades of serving the community through her work with the organization. In her 28-year tenure as clinical director of Community House, Pumilia worked with countless children and families from all over the state of Vermont. She has helped shepherd the program through expansion and change including the start of the Community Schoolhouse day school, the move to the current campus in the former Winston Prouty buildings on Oak and High streets, and several renovation projects. ....

During this past winter, children in 27 early learning programs across Windham County have been able to look forward to bookmobile day. Thatâs when the Winston Prouty Centerâs Sueño LeBlond stops by with a new delivery of books and materials from the Early Learning Express Bookmobile. Early educators have been hit hard financially by the pandemic and have even less ability than usual to enhance their libraries or purchase additional materials for their programs. Research shows that children are more motivated to read when they can choose their own books, so regular access to fresh titles via the ELE lending program keeps learning fun and supports providers at the same time. ....

BRATTLEBORO â While itâs too early to know just how beneficial the child tax credit provision in the federal stimulus bill will be for community members, officials at local organizations foresee positive effects. The $1.9 trillion pandemic relief package, signed into law by President Biden on Thursday, includes a one-year benefit to increase the tax credit from $2,000 to $3,000 per child age 6 to 17 or $3,600 per child under the age of 6 for single parents with annual incomes of $112,500 or households making up to $150,000 a year. Families will receive monthly checks instead of waiting for their tax returns. ....
