University announced winners for the annual george polk awards in journalism. They talked about the challenges reporting during wartime domestically and internationally. This runs one hour. Good afternoon and welcome. I am john darnton the curator of the george polk awards and it is my pleasure to announce the winners for the most outstanding works of journalism in 2019. I would like to express my gratitude to long island university, the sponsor of the klein, li kimberly you president , for her unflagging support. I would like to thank my friend and colleague, ralph engleman, our faculty coordinator. As many of you know our awards were established in 1949 to commemorate george polk, the cbs correspondent assassinated the year before during the greek civil war. We didnt know what the results would be, but before the election we devoted a special panel, the firsttime women candidates to come on the beat.
