Republic National Distributing Company to Purchase Opici Family ...


Grand Prairie, Texas,  – Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC), today announced an agreement to purchase Opici Family Distributing of Florida, effective March 1, 2021. 
Chief Operating Officer Bob Hendrickson said, “We are excited about the purchase of Opici Family Distributing of Florida as it expands our fine wine and craft spirits portfolio, as well as our relationship with Opici family. The Opici family has been a successful distributor in Florida since 1980 and we are proud to carry on that tradition on their behalf under the RNDC name.”
Along with this purchase, Opici Wines and Spirits, the supplier arm of the Opici family, will be distributed by RNDC in Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico and South Carolina. ....

Off-Premise Sales Grow as Total Wine Market Falls

Sonoma, Calif. – While the decline in on-premise sales continued to drag on total U.S. wine sales in November, the latest Wine Industry Metrics point to price sensitivity in some channels.
Domestic wines saw consumer spending fall 6% to $47.7 billion in the 12 months ended November, market research firm bw166 reported. On-premise sales continue to drive the decrease, falling 39%, by value effectively countering a 13% rise in off-premise expenditures versus a year earlier and helping cut the value of the total wine market in the U.S. by 8% to $67.9 billion.
Yet Nielsen off-premise channels, which account for 23% of the value but 45% of case volume in the overall market, saw sales of domestic table and sparkling wines of $1.1 billion in the four weeks ended Nov. 28, up 9% from a year ago. While growth was significantly slower than in recent periods, sales typically peak in November meaning the growth remained relatively strong as it came of ....

DtC Bottle Prices Decline as Retail Rises

The average bottle price of winery direct-to-consumer (DtC) shipments continues to decline as the overall sales volume of the channel increases, while the opposite trend is taking place in retail channels. 
According to the latest retail and DtC data by Nielsen and Wines Vines Analytics/Sovos ShipCompliant, DtC shipment volume was up 17% to more than 977,000 9L cases in November compared to a year ago, while off-premise sales value increased by 11% to nearly $1.8 billion. 
In the 12 months ended November 2020, the retail channels tracked by Nielsen came to $20 billion and 209 million cases, while DtC came to $3.65 billion off of 8.2 million cases.  ....

New Jersey consumers are victims of an arbitrary state law that says American wineries producing under 106,000 cases a year can ship direct to consumers’ homes or workplaces but wineries making over that can’t.

It would make no sense for the State of New Jersey to let consumers order books shipped to their door from publishers who print a certain number of books per year but not from those who print more than that amount. ....
