The DAR American History Essay Contest and the Good Citizens scholarship awards were presented at the Tuesday, February 9, 2021 meeting of the Mt. Diablo Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
The American History Essay Contest is open to students in grades five through eight in public, private, and parochial schools, and registered home-study programs. Essays are judged for historical accuracy, adherence to an assigned topic, organization of materials, interest, originality, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and neatness. Awards, including medals, certificates and monetary awards, were presented by Sharlene Rednour, Chapter Historian and American History Essay Chairperson. The winners were 5th Grade - Andrew Lin from Visions in Education Charter School, 6th Grade - Kiona McCasland from Bentley Middle School, 7th Grade - Ishaan Savla from Windermere Ranch Middle School, and 8th Grade - Audrey Lin from Visions in Education Charter School.
