Following an extensive national search, Kimberly D. McCorkle has been named as the new Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at East Tennessee State University. She will assume this role in July, succeeding Dr. Wilsie S. Bishop, who is retiring at the end of June following 43 years of distinguished service to the university. McCorkle comes to ETSU from the University of West Florida, where she has spent the past 19 years and currently serves as Vice Provost and Professor. Center seeks to curtail cardiovascular disease in Central Appalachia East Tennessee State Universityâs College of Public Health on Monday launched a new cardiovascular risk research center that aims to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease on the region, while addressing health disparities in Central Appalachia. âFrom a public health perspective, if you look at the populations in Central Appalachia, in terms of cardiovascular health outcomes and cardiovascular risk, and you compare it to the rest of the nation you see major disparities, in terms of the outcomes and risks,â said Dr. Hadii Mamudu, who will direct the Center for Cardiovascular Risks Research. ....

Wilhoit brings more than 40 years of experience in clinical and research-based nursing, administration and leadership experience to the largest nursing program in Tennessee. While serving as the Vice President and Chief Nursing Executive for Mountain States Health Alliance, she was responsible for the efforts that resulted in Johnson City Medical Center becoming the first hospital in Tennessee to receive Magnet Status. Throughout her career, Wilhoit has worked with countless nursing students from ETSU and other nursing programs across the region to ensure they had meaningful clinical experiences. ....
