OPINION: Good Deeds: Notice of real estate fraud William P. O’Donnell At the Norfolk County Registry of Deeds there have been a number of modernization initiatives implemented. One such initiative has been the free online Consumer Notification Service offered by the Norfolk County Registry of Deeds to property owners in the 28 communities that make up Norfolk County. The purpose of the Consumer Notification Service is to help protect Norfolk County property and homeowners against the negative consequences of property fraud. The Consumer Notification Service is available through the Registry website http://norfolkdeds.org. The purpose of this Consumer Notification Service is to proactively give as much information to the consumer in a timely manner. The Registry of Deeds deals with the biggest asset most of us have, which is our home. The Consumer Notification Service is a way to make sure that if someone is perpetrating a fraud on the title of your home that you get ....

O’Donnell reminded Norfolk County residents to disregard a direct mail solicitation offering them a certified copy of their property deed for a fee of anywhere from $59.50 to $95. “For the past several years, a California company has been preying on unsuspecting homeowners by sending a direct mail solicitation asking them to send a check for $95 in order to receive a copy of their deed,” O’Donnell said. If a consumer knew that they could print a non-certified copy of their deed for free from our website www.norfolkdeeds.org or obtain a certified copy of their deed for a charge of only $1 per page plus an additional $1 for postage, they would never agree to pay such an outrageous fee for service. The average price for a mailed homeowner’s certified deed copy by the registry, usually two pages, is $3.” ....

What was said of the 1918 influenza pandemic can be said of COVID-19: “Nothing else - no infection, no war, no famine - has ever killed so many in as short a period.” The most important recognition of this COVID-19 pandemic is that it has taken the lives of our fellow Americans and individuals across the globe. The loss of life from COVID-19 has had such a devastating impact on the individual that lost the battle against this deadly disease and the grieving family and friends left behind. There has been both a physical as well as mental toll from COVID-19 on individuals that survived the battle against this debilitating disease. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost their lives due to the coronavirus and those who have been impacted by coronavirus. ....
