State Department of Transportation officials still haven’t determined a cause of the March 25 collapse of an I-295 retaining wall and have hired a forensic engineer to independently determine a reason.
That was one of the revelations from Transportation Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scacceti during a Zoom conference Wednesday evening with South Jersey drivers, residents and officials over the incident that has resulted in demolition of part of the wall.
I-295 wall collapse to be discussed in public forum with DOT commissioner
Updated 1:41 PM;
South Jersey drivers and residents will be able to question state Department of Transportation officials on April 7 about the partial collapse of an I-295 retaining wall on March 25.
The forum will be hosted by State Senators Nilsa I. Cruz Pérez, Assemblyman William F. Moen, Jr., and Assemblyman William W. Spearman, all D-Camden, who wrote the letter. Blogger 42Freeway.com first reported the news about the forum date.
The retaining wall partially collapsed on March 25, forcing the DOT to close the right lane of I-295, which remains closed, and make temporary repairs to the wall. Drone photos show what appears to be a sinkhole that the unused roadway sunk onto.
