New AirTrain at Newark Airport could open in 2026, replace old monorail

The final countdown has started on the 25-year-old monorail that serves Newark Liberty Airport.
Plans to replace the monorail with a new 2.5 mile AirTrain Newark that will run on an elevated guideway with more spacious trains, were announced on Thursday, which also started the clock on a 30-day comment period on a draft environmental assessment report.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will issue its findings on the final Environmental Assessment after a review and incorporation of public comments. The deadline for comments to be made is 5 p.m., March 12 and the documents are available on the current studies section of the Port Authority website. ....
