1,000 to 2,000 COVID-19 COVID-19 vaccine doses being wasted each week, state says

In just a few months, the state has gone from people fighting to get a vaccine to vaccinators pleading for people to step up for one for fear the doses will be wasted. Continuing Coverage: Coronavirus in WisconsinThe state revealed between 1,000 2,000 doses are now being wasted every week.Despite the waste, the state doesn t want to slow down its efforts. But the state said it s telling vaccinators not to let up for fear of spoiling a dose. Absolutely. We do not want to waste a single dose, Hayat pharmacist Lauren Splawn said. Milwaukee s Hayat Pharmacy has administered more than 30,000 vaccine doses, but as demand slows has scaled back to filling just a syringe or two at a time. As clinics get smaller, there are fewer people to take any extra doses once they tap into a new vial, which contains between five and 10 doses. Alabama
Montgomery: State lawmakers have inched closer to approving a ban on so-called vaccine passports that would require proof of COVID-19 vaccination to access services from a business or state agency. The House Health Committee voted Wednesday to send the bill to House of Representatives for a vote. It has already cleared the Senate. The bill contains a number of exceptions. Surgeons, dentists, medical institutions, hospitals and other health care providers are exempted. Universities could still require students to receive a vaccine; however, there would be exceptions for vaccines approved for “emergency use” by the FDA, as is the case with all three COVID-19 vaccines given in the United States thus far. The idea of vaccine passports is to have a document that shows a person has been inoculated against COVID-19. Federal officials say there are no plans to make them broadly mandatory, but some Republican governors have issued ....

Supply of COVID-19 vaccine nearing demand in Wisconsin
By SCOTT BAUERApril 22, 2021 GMT
MADISON, Wis. (AP) The supply of COVID-19 vaccine in Wisconsin is nearing the point of exceeding demand for the first time, with more than 50% of the eligible population having received at least one dose and nearly 30% of the total population fully vaccinated.
State health leaders said Thursday that while the gap between supply and demand is closing, there is an increasing emphasis on reaching those who may have difficulty getting vaccinated or who have been hesitant to receive the shot to date.
As an example of the closing gap, this week 250,000 doses were requested from vaccinators, down from 400,000 the week before, said Julie Willems Van Dijk, deputy secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. Of the 250,000 doses requested, the state had 150,000 available to distribute to vaccinators, she said. ....
