Top designers take part in charity chair auction Shoreditch

An exhibition and charity auction of chairs customised by world renowned artists and designers runs in Shoreditch.
Finsbury Park artist Morag Myerscough, artist and set designer Es Devlin, and designer Tom Dixon are among those who have contributed to 19 Chairs at Protein Studios in New Inn Yard.
An online charity auction - closing on May 31 - runs in parallel, raising money for Age UK and Resourcing Racial Justice.

Reacting to the damage of Covid 19, brothers Tom and Will Butterfield said their ode to this gloriously common furniture piece came out of the unprecedented early days of the pandemic. To us, nothing seemed more predictable, or humble, than the chair. ....

Created in the Covid-19 lockdowns, the 19 unique chairs are being auctioned off in support of Age UK and Resourcing Racial Justice
In the UK’s first Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, two brothers from south London decided to start a project that could connect and activate creatives in order to support charitable causes. The brothers, Tom and Will Butterfield, constructed 19 simple wooden chairs over the course of 19 days in isolation, and subsequently shipped these to 19 various designers and artists worldwide to reinterpret and repurpose with their own aesthetic.
Now, the unique chairs are being auctioned off online in support of Age UK and Resourcing Racial Justice, and a public exhibition will take place at Protein Studios in London’s Shoreditch 20–23 May. ....
