CLAY COUNTY TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

(EFFINGHAM) The investigation continues into a two vehicle traffic crash that occurred at 10:10 last night along U.S. Route 50 near the intersection with Old Route 50 in Xenia, in neighboring Clay County. The Illinois State Police report that 34 year old Romano Ruslan from Orlando, Florida, was eastbound on Route 50 when he lost control of his GMC box truck and it crossed into the westbound lane and struck and sideswiped a westbound pickup truck driven by 48 year old Robert Hale from Lawrenceville. Both drivers and a passenger in the pickup truck, 18 year old Alex Carrell from Lawrenceville, were all taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Ruslan was ticketed for driving to fast for conditions, for improper lane usage, and for illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver. Authorities also report several other late night and overnight traffic accidents due to the slick driving conditions, none with series injuries. ....

(CHICAGO) The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported 1,747 new COVID-19 cases on Monday with 35 additional deaths. The new statewide numbers now show 1,148,088 positive COVID-19 cases with 19,668 coronavirus related deaths. In the latest hospitalization report, there were 2,161 people with COVID-19 in statewide hospitals. Of those, 469 patients were in Intensive Care Units and 251 others were on ventilators. (OLNEY) The Olney City Council met last night in regular session. The Council approved the payment of all bills as presented : held a public hearing to close out a state-funded Downstate Small Business Stabilization Grant for an Olney business with no comments or questions from the public : approved an ordinance to designate a Loading Zone or No Parking Zone along the north side of West North Avenue, between Whittle Avenue and the alley west of 531 South Whittle Avenue : approved an ordinance to amend the City of Olney Municipal Code to allow materials other than copper for water line installation : approved a request from Wabash Valley College to use East Fork Lake for a collegiate fishing tournament : agreed to amend the City’s Fiscal Year 2021 budget to purchase fire department turnout gear and masks worth approximately $20,000 : approved engineering fees for the City’s Route 130 Sidewalk Project to be submitted to the state for reimbursement of fund ....
