Cabinet will not withdraw bill making it easier to change gender registration

Outgoing minister Franc Weerwind (legal protection) does not intend to withdraw his bill to expand the Transgender law, which the lower house of Dutch parliament, the Tweede Kamer, has asked him to do. A motion from NSC and SGP requesting the bill be withdrawn was approved by a small majority (73-70). The minister had advised against the request earlier, and he is sticking with that opinion. “I have informed that I cannot or will not carry out this motion,” he said. A majority of Members of Parliament indicated they do no want to move forward with a Cabinet proposal that would allow people to more easily change their gender in the country's official birth records. The motion from NSC and SGP calls on the caretaker Cabinet to withdraw the proposed relaxations to the Transgender Law within four weeks, and passed by a slim margin with 73 voting in favor, and 70 opposed. ....

Whooping cough & measles cases rising; Politicians demand action over vaccine rates

More than 50 people have been diagnosed with measles in an ongoing outbreak, and the per capita rate of whooping cough infections among young children is soaring. Politicians debated the issue of declining vaccination rates in the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Parliament, on Thursday. Vaccination rates have dipped below key levels necessary to keep preventable infections at bay.The amount of measles cases is seven times more than the whole of 2023. The health institute RIVM is worried about the declining vaccination rates. ....
