More than 6.8 million doses of the single-shot vaccine had been administered across the US as of 13 April. Among these, there were six reports of a rare blood clotting condition called cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST), which affects blood vessels in the brain, all of which were among women aged 18 to 48. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is also reviewing five reported cases of a bleeding condition, called capillary leak syndrome, in people who received the Oxford/AstraZeneca covid-19 vaccine. “At this stage, it is not yet clear whether there is a causal association” between the vaccines and the reported conditions, the EMA said.
