this republican-dominant president are making are at the risk of americans everywhere. it s not hard to do, tom, but it s something that need to get done, because president trump specializes in three-word slogans and those slogans worked for a lot of voters. and if democrats want to switch that, they have to lose the nuance and get to the point. tom, thank you so much for joining me this morning. please come in when you re in new york. thanks, stephanie. nice talking to you. i m stephanie ruhle. my colleague ali will be back tomorrow and check on #velshiruhle. andrea mitchell is here for andrea mitchell reports. thank you, stephanie. two top republicans sound the alarm over the president s demeanor and judgment. reckless, outrageous and undignified behavior has become excused in countenance as telling it like it is when it is
to a senior white house official within the last matter of minutes is they believe that these senators at the end of the day will support this tax cut bill. they believe they have an obligation to their constituents. they highlight the fact that president trump won in the states of arizona. john mccain and jeff flake s home state by 3.5 points. he won in bob corker s state by more than 25 points. at the end of the day, they believe this is one of those conservative not just items but the most significant of conservative items which is tax cuts for americans. which is why they think they ll be on board. today attacking back saying that flake suggested other republicans have been speaking out. instead he was highlighting that they were standing up for him noting the multiple standing ovations he talked about behind the scenes, behind closed doors during the senate policy luncheon yesterday. the white house still feels these republicans will all find that necessary cohesion when it
about morality. i will say this. i don t think this kind of dialogue helps. i don t think the american people appreciate it. whether it s people attacking the president. whether it s the president responding. whether it s between republicans or democrats. look at some of the dialogue last week with gold star families. i think americans are angry when they see that everything has boiled down to politics. and it s not. a lot of times this is about things to help the american people. and i think a lot of americans look at this and realize, look. this is just silliness. let s do the work. let s have serious conversations. i would say that s true of both sides. it s true of many people in politics right now. i would agree with you. many people voted for president trump because they wanted to break down this noise and have bipartisanship. i want to talk about this uranium investigation for a bit. led by david nunes into hillary
pushback against president trump, the short answer is no. i ve been talking to a bunch of senators on capitol hill. we ve been monitoring the interviews. and by and large what you re seeing here is republicans reaffirming in public what has been obvious since november. this is donald trump s party now. and senators are saying they re casting this in terms of this being a personal issue between corker and flake and the president. not really addressing what it means for the party but saying they agree with the president. and if anything, i think being publicly put to answering that question, you know, do you agree with senator flake, republicans need to do more to control or call out these things that donald trump says and does, people are siding with donald trump. because they see the writing on the wall there. so if anything, what we re seeing is more and more republican lawmakers being forced to go one way or the other on that public/private conversations about what they feel. lining
first we have to establish who paid for it whether it was republicans to begin with or democrats later on. isn t this how opposition research works? it is. this is the mother of all opposition research in some senses because of everything that s happened since. but certainly the beginnings of this was fairly straightforward and commonplace within american politics. there s a lot of attention being paid. president trump already saying the fake dossier. there s no one that established it s fake. at this point it s just unverified. should the trump team be unsettled by the fact that robert mueller and his team are quite focused on it? well, i certainly think the mueller investigation is a major issue and, you know, anyone who s under investigation by a bunch of federal prosecutors has cause to be concerned. i mean, you know, a lot of this depends on what you care more about. do you care more about how the investigation started or care
