CORBIN â A Corbin man who has been accused of attempting to kidnap and then offering $1,000 for a toddler is set to appear in Whitley District Court on Monday.
Ronnie Lou Helton, 73, of Corbin, was arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping of a minor and promoting human trafficking of a victim under 18 years of age after the Corbin Police Department were called to a residence on Gordon Hill Pike on Wednesday evening.
Kristy Baker, the childâs grandmother, reported to police that a male subject, later identified as Helton, walked over to where he 3-year-old grandchild was playing on a trailer and began attempting to assist him to the other side of the fence by holding his hand and leading him to where the trailer sloped higher up on the fence.

LAUREL COUNTY â A Corbin man repeatedly attempted to escape law enforcement on Saturday evening when Laurel County Sheriff s Office was investigating a possible overdose.
Laurel County Sheriff s Deputy Brent France along with CSO Brian France arrested Charles J. Gray, Jr., age 39, of Highway 1232 at 6:11 p.m. The arrest occurred off US 25, approximately 8 miles south of London, after deputies were dispatched to a possible overdose at a business there. Upon pulling into the business parking lot, deputies observed a man flee on foot when he saw the patrol car pulled into the parking lot, according to a press release from the Sheriff s Office.

A Corbin woman was recently arrested after a complaint warrant was issued following an assault that left the victim with a broken collarbone and abrasions in various places on their body.
Ivy Palmer, 46, was arrested by Corbin Police Department Patrolman Lonnie Sawyers on Jan. 28 after Judge Fred White signed a complaint warrant the day prior.
According to the complaint, Palmer allegedly, “intentionally or wantonly cause[d] serious physical injury to another person by slapping Affiant [victim] and police were called.”
Police told the pair to “break it up,” according to the complaint. After the initial incident, “[Palmer] came back down stairs and going behind Affiant pulled Affiants hair and turned a chair over on top of Affiant with Affiant in the chair.”
