Statewide new, active cases remain steady as region continues to see increase

While Tennessee has seen little growth in its rate of new cases or active case count, the same canât be said for the stateâs northeast region, which has seen its new case rate, active case count and positive test rate rise over the past month.
Over the past two weeks, Tennesseeâs active case count rose from 12,979 to 13,392, or about 3.1%. Northeast Tennessee, meanwhile, saw its active case count grow from 1,189 on March 31 to 1,500 as of Tuesday â a 26.1% increase. The regionâs seven-day average of new cases (137.8 on Tuesday) rose at a higher rate than the stateâs as well, 30.3% to 13.7%. ....

Bristol area sees vaccine demand slow down as cases surge

BRISTOL, Tenn. â Just a handful of people were in line Wednesday morning at Whitetop Creek Park during a six-hour COVID-19 vaccination clinic â a mere trickle compared to the miles-long lines seen over the winter.
Contrast that with Wednesdayâs announcement that Ballad Health was revisiting its surge plans after the number of COVID-19-infected inpatients climbed to 127, including 28 in intensive care units. The last time the regional health system treated that many patients was Jan. 31, as the region reeled from its deadliest month yet.
While Tennessee is now making vaccine available to anyone over the age of 16, turnout at some clinics has diminished. Dr. Stephen May, medical director of the Sullivan County Regional Health Department, conceded that the response hasnât been overwhelming in what he terms a âraceâ to get people vaccinated. ....
