A MAYOR has written an open letter to the county’s leaders calling for action on drunkenness, drug abuse and anti-social behaviour which he says are causing a ‘marked decline’ in residents’ quality of life. Councillor Adrian Legge, mayor of Windermere and Bowness, addressed the letter to councillors, chief executives of the Lake District National Park, Cumbria County Council and South Lakeland District Council and MP Tim Farron urging them to work with the council to develop an ‘emergency strategy’ for recovery. Cllr Legge described the ‘mounting dissatisfaction’ voiced by residents and called for more police presence in the two towns, a review of licensing conditions and a crackdown on planning breaches.
