Families and visitors of the Ballina Shire have been invited to be a part of a Citizen Science workshop series and try their hand at weaving.
In a special family focused school holiday program, local weavers Tania Marlowe and Deb Cole from Jugan Dandii will teach hand weaving techniques and riverside Nyangbal yarns.
Participants will learn about introduced and natural fibres of the local area and how they can be prepared and used to make a small sample fish trap.
Tania and Deb will demonstrate and use a variety of local endemic and native fibres, with some introduced fibres, to adapt to a contemporary version of a fish trap or small sample fish trap woven form.

The event, a collaboration of local producers, chefs and farmers, is set to showcase the spectacular flair and flavour of the Northern Rivers. The Tweed Artisan Food Weekend offers visitors the chance to explore and discover a selection of boutique properties throughout the vast Tweed Coast and lush hinterland between March 11 and 14. While the Snowy s Seafood BBQ White Party, Potager s Meet the Locals Lunch, Mavis s American BBQ Feast and Pavillions Hotel have sold out, there are still tickets available on a number of events.

Subscriber only Australia s largest short film festival is returning to Mullumbimby this month for the first leg of its national tour. In 2021, Flickerfest is celebrating its 30th year of short moving screenings, and this year will screen more than 40 short films from February 18 to 2. The 2021 program was selected from 2,700 entries, from 100 countries, giving Northern Rivers audiences a first look at the hottest short films in the world over three big cinema packed days at the Mullumbimby Civic Hall. There will be a chance to see a collection of award winners from Flickerfest Bondi, screening across Best Of International Shorts and Best Of Australian Shorts direct from competition; and Short Laughs Comedy.

Good news for Sarah McLeod fans – she’s coming to Ballina next month.
The singer, songwriter, guitarist and now pianist is bringing her The Solo Electric Lady Tour to Ballina RSL on March 5.
Her fans will be seeing and hearing a whole other side of popular artist, but will also get to hear her play staples from her last solo album, 2017’s
Rocky’s Diner.
Ms McLeod said she has migrated to playing piano in recent years and has found herself inspired by the instrument.
“I find that playing the piano seems to change the whole mood of things I write,” Ms McLeod said.
