COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two Lakeland Correctional Facility Prisoners have been charged in connection with an attempt to smuggle drugs into the prison last September.
40-year-old Michael Stone and 34-year-old Matthew Siders have both been charged with conspiracy to bring contraband into the prison.
Both are also facing fourth time habitual offender sentencing enhancers if they are convicted. ....

BLOOMINGTON (WEEK) - McLean County s chief prosecutor says his office is reviewing a 1998 Bloomington murder case in which a local man is now demanding a new trial on charges he killed his three-year old daughter.
State s Attorney Don Knapp s office must decide how to respond to Barton McNeil s petition filed this week.
McNeil, 61, is serving a 100-year prison sentence for smothering Christina McNeil, but he s asking for an evidentiary hearing to show newly-discovered DNA evidence would have led to McNeil s acquittal. ....

OMAHA, Neb.
The Omaha Police Department has arrested an inmate who left the Community Corrections Center - Lincoln, according to the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.
According to a news release from the NDCS, Davaughn Johnson left the CCC-L on Feb. 10, 2021.
The NDCS said Johnson was taken into custody on Monday, Feb. 23 around 6 p.m. ....

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Nearly 1,300 inmates and Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCR) employees will get their first round of COVID-19 vaccines this week.
Inmates are qualified to get the Pfizer vaccine under the state’s Phase 1-B category since they live in congregate settings.
The Department of Health has provided all the vaccines, which are being administered all week.
Hundreds of DOCR inmates will no longer be at risk of contracting the coronavirus. ....

Pennsylvania Department Of Corrections Announces Enhanced Safety Measures For Incoming Legal Mail

Harrisburg, PA – Department of Corrections (DOC) Secretary John Wetzel today announced the expansion of safety protocols aimed at limiting entry points for contraband through incoming legal or privileged mail via the court system. As of March 1, 2021, all mail received at any State Correctional Institution that is to be treated as privileged must contain a control number issued in advance to qualified senders by the DOC, including mail from courts.
While we face the challenge of mitigating COVID-19 in our prison system, we must still contend with drugs, substance use disorder and the security threats caused by contraband, said Wetzel. We are putting commonsense precautions in place that do not further limit the freedom of those in our custody, while ensuring their safety and the safety of our staff. ....
