At one point in the meeting, he approached Christchurch Mayor Lianne Dalziel to present a petition signed by 5000 people and various historical documents about the pool, supporters chanting as he did so.

Discovery of old deed may be lifeline for threatened suburban pool

They reveal the land was given to the then Riccarton Borough Council, by Wharenui School and the community trust that ran the pool, expressly to be used for public swimming.
The club and other groups that use the pool for swimming and water sports have been battling to keep it open. A petition to save it now has about 4500 signatures.
Club president Chris Averill said a member of the club found the 1960 deed of trust, and a 1990 internal council memo referring to it, deep in the council’s own archives. ....

No anomalies found in Christchurch council budget after $5m pool bungle

Christchurch City councillors Catherine Chu and Sam MacDonald asked council staff to double-check calculations in the 2021 long-term plan after the Wharenui Pool bungle.
Staff have since reviewed the financials for the projects that were featured in the LTP consultation document and results have found that all the financial analysis was correct, a council spokeswoman said.
The incorrect figures were supplied to the Wharenui Swim Club by the council’s recreation and sport services team, based on their interpretation of a report from an independent consultant.
The figures were not subject to the same financial rigour as other costings because they were never intended for the LTP, a council spokeswoman said. ....
