TRAVELLERS have been moved on from a Weymouth park. Officers from Weymouth and Portland Police s Neighbourhood Policing Team evicted people living in an unauthorised traveller encampment near Monmouth Avenue yesterday afternoon. The eviction was supported by members of the police s Force Support Group, the Professional Development Unit, the Dorset Police Dog Section and the County Lines team. A spokesman for Weymouth & Portland Neighbourhood Policing Team said: We have successfully evicted an unauthorised traveller encampment near to Monmouth Avenue using Section 62A of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act. The Neighbourhood Policing Team would like to thank the local community for their patience and our colleagues from FSG, PDU, Dog Section, Patrol and the County Lines team for supporting the eviction.
TWO people were arrested as police swooped on an address in Portland yesterday. Specialist County Line officers dedicated to tackling drug dealing joined local officers in the raid. A spokesman for Weymouth and Portland Police said: Officers from Weymouth & Portland Neighbourhood Policing Team and County Line Team arrested two local persons at an address on Portland-a female for theft, drug possession and failing to appear at court for a previous incident and a male for theft and assaulting an emergency worker. Both the male and female were subsequently charged with offences and will both appear before Weymouth Magistrates Court in due course.
