Beavers have their lodges, rabbits have their warrens, but not all people have a home. Shelter, a basic human need, is very often out of the reach of families in our community. The money is too scarce, the resources spread too thin. One necessity cheats another and it is usually shelter that suffers most. It also costs the most.
Habitat For Humanity works across Canada, community by community, erasing that one social pitfall. They rally grassroots support to build homes for people outside the economic loop, so those people will have decent living conditions as they try to shape their lives. Prince George has never had a Habitat For Humanity branch, but a movement is underway to start one here. Maureen Crawford, director of the Western Canadian affiliates of HFH, was in town last week to help that progress. ....
