china s far western tibetan area has been devastated by a series of earthquakes, the largest quake registering a magnitude 6.9. at least 400 people have been killed. more than 10,000 have been injured. many were trapped in their homes as their poorly designed houses collapsed on top of them. today s series of quakes hit less than two years after a deadly 7.9 quake in neighboring sichuan province called almost 90,000 people. on the phone from beijing is foreign correspondent for the washington post andrew higgins. what are you learning about the results of today s series of quakes, andrew? well, they re still not giving details and a death toll. because i think this is probably a really remote location. it takes 12 hours to drive from the provincial capital. it s certainly pretty bleak. you can see from shots you re seeing on television that the epicenter of the quake, 90% of the buildings have basically
