An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred only 11 minutes ago 35 km southeast of Owase, Japan, Japan s National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) reported.
The quake hit at a great depth of 402.8 km beneath the epicenter near Owase, Owase Shi, Mie, Japan, early morning on Saturday 1 May 2021 at 2:45 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. ....

A magnitude 4.7 earthquake near Wakayama, Wakayama Shi, Japan, was reported 1 hour and 54 minutes ago by Japan s National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 6.7 km beneath the epicenter after midnight on Monday 15 March 2021 at 12:25 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.6. ....

If Japanese cities were ski resorts, Ishikawa prefecture would be the best backcountry zone you’d ever laid your eyes on. It’s capital city Kanazawa essentially a pillow zone with enough things to do, and all in such close proximity to one another, that you can and will return again and again. Far removed from the crowded lift lines and haemorrhaging rental stores that might be Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka in this extended ski metaphor, the rural foothills, seaside fishing villages and remote mountain temples that surround what has become ‘Japan’s fourth city’ in Kanazawa is a Japan waiting to be explored. ....
