CAPE TOWN - Retired Constitutional Court judge, Johann Kriegler, on Monday said that Westen Cape judge president John Hlophe should be suspended.
The tribunal made a ruling that he breached the Constitution by trying to influence two Constitutional Court justices to rule in the favour of former president Jacob Zuma in a case involving a French arms company.
Kriegler was responding to the Judicial Conduct Tribunal s damning ruling against Hlophe: “On the recommendation on the advice of the Judicial Service Commission, the president is certainly empowered to do so.”

The CEO of the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) says the agency can t extend the validity of temporary disability grants that have lapsed any further.
Human rights advocacy group Black Sash has called on Sassa to reinstate the temporary disability grants that were suspended at the end of December 2020.
More than 200,000 grant beneficiaries nationwide have been affected after payments lapsed at the end of last month.
About 50,000 of those 200,000 affected beneficiaries come from the Western Cape, says Sassa CEO Totsie Memela.
Memela explains that temporary grants that were supposed to lapse in February 2020 were extended to December last year to mitigate the impact of the State of National Disaster and the subsequent lockdown.
